Designing labs for IT education

In April 2017, University of Tyumen and NSALAB jointly opened the “Network and System Administration Lab”, which has become a training ground for the WorldSkills Russia national team, where they prepared for the international skills competition; additionally, NSALAB served as a remote site for national competitions of many countries of WorldSkills International.

Virtualization infrastructure was designed based on a cluster of 14 Cisco UCS 220 M4 servers, Dell SCv3020 storage system and Cisco Nexus 3524x switch fabric. This infrastructure implements the Software Defined Datacenter concept based on VMware vSphere hypervisors, VMware vSAN hyper-converged storage and VMware NSX-V software-defined network.

The laboratory infrastructure for practicing networking consisted of routers, switches, firewalls, telephones and Cisco Systems wireless access points, as well as Digi console servers and APC manageable power distribution units for out-of-band control of the equipment.
